Yeah And Ethiopia Stretch Forth Her Hands Again
Verse-by-Verse Bible Commentary
Envoys will come out of Egypt; Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.
New American Standard Version
Clarke's Commentary
Verse Psalms 68:31. Ethiopia shall presently stretch out her easily unto God. — This verse had its literal fulfilment nether Solomon, when Egypt formed an alliance with that king by his matrimony with Pharaoh'southward girl; and when the queen of Sheba came to Jerusalem to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Just as this may be a prophetic declaration of the spread of Christianity, information technology was literally fulfilled after the resurrection of our Lord. There were Egyptians at Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, who, St. Hilary tells u.s.a., on their return to their own country proclaimed what they had seen, and became in that state the ambassadors of Christ. The Ethiopian eunuch was ane of the first amidst the Gentiles who received the Gospel. Thus princes or principal men came out of Egypt, and Ethiopia stretched out her hands to God. The words themselves refer to the sending ambassadors, and making alliances. The Hebrew is very emphatic: כוש תריץ ידיו לאלהים cush tarits yadiav lelohim; Cush will cause her hands to run out to God. She will, with great alacrity and delight, give up her ability and influence unto God. The Chaldee paraphrases well: "The sons of Cush will run, that they may spread out their hands in prayer before God."

Psalms 68:0 The God of Israel
This magnificent hymn of praise and triumph was no doubt written for some special occasion. It may accept been the occasion on which David brought the ark to Jerusalem (see introductory notes to Psalms 24:0), just its language makes the psalm suitable for much wider utilize.
When God fights for his people, their enemies are as helpless earlier them as smoke earlier air current or wax before fire. Nothing can stop him every bit he rides out to do battle (one-iv). God is on the side of the poor, the afflicted and the downtrodden, but he opposes those who rebel against him (5-6).
All this was demonstrated in the events of the exodus from Arab republic of egypt, when God worked wonders in the skies and on the earth to release his people and punish their oppressors (vii-x). It was demonstrated besides in the conquest of Canaan and the events that followed. Enemy kings were conquered and driven before Israel as snowflakes are driven before the wind. The psalmist pictures the colourful scene at the Israelites' camp as the soldiers render with clothing and other goods left behind by the fleeing enemy (11-14).
Finally, Israel conquered Jerusalem, whereupon God, in the symbolic form of the covenant box, came to Mount Zion. The psalmist imagines the mighty mountains of Bashan being envious of the humble hill in Jerusalem that God chose for his dwelling place (fifteen-16; cf. 2 Samuel 5:ane-ten; 2 Samuel 6:fourteen-xix).
God's conquest on behalf of his people, from the fourth dimension they left Mount Sinai to the time they came to Mount Zion, is pictured in a conquest by a mighty ground forces of chariots. The victors capture their enemies and enrich themselves by seizing the enemies' goods (17-18).
These reminders from the past encourage Israel to have conviction in God for the present and the future. He will keep to assist them (19-20). From the tops of Bashan'south mountains to the depths of the sea nothing can withstand God. Israel will triumph over its enemies (21-23). The psalmist then describes the triumphal procession, as singers, musicians and dancers, followed by the tribal representatives, enter the sanctuary (24-27). No longer volition other nations ('beasts' and 'bulls') conquer State of israel and forcefulness it to pay heavy taxes. Instead these nations will bring their offerings to Israel, as they submit themselves to the dominion of God (28-31). All nations are urged to praise him who rules in the heavens (32-35).

Barnes' Notes on the Whole Bible
Princes shall come out of Egypt - That is, Shall come and admit the true God. Egypt is referred to here as i of the most prominent of the foreign nations and then known; and the thought is, that the distinguished men of foreign nations - the rulers and princes of the earth - would come and submit themselves to God, and be united to his people. The word rendered "princes" here - חשׁמנים chashmaniym - occurs nowhere else in the Scriptures. It means, co-ordinate to Gesenius (Lexicon), the fatty; then, the rich; the opulent; nobles. It is the word from which the name "Hasmonean" (or Asmonean), which was given past the Jews to the Maccabees, or Jewish princes in the fourth dimension of the Jewish history between the Old and New Testaments, is supposed to have been derived. The Septuagint, the Vulgate, and the Syriac, render it "legates" or "ambassadors." Luther renders it "princes." The reference is undoubtedly to men of station or rank.
Ethiopia - Hebrew, "Cush." On the significant of this word in the Scriptures, see the notes at Isaiah 11:11.
Shall presently stretch out her hands - literally, "Shall make its easily to run." The expression denotes the eagerness or haste with which it would be done. The human action is an act of supplication, and the reference is to prayer.
Unto God - To the true God. The nation will supplicate the mercy of God, or volition worship him. The idea, in accord with that in the previous verses, is, that the state here referred to would become subject to the true God. Information technology is a view of the future; of the time when the nations would be converted to the true faith, or would admit the true God. Whether this refers to the Cush in Arabia, or to the Cush in Africa (Ethiopia as commonly understood), it is a description of what will yet occur, for all these lands, and all other lands, volition be converted to the true religion, and will stretch out their easily in supplication and prayer, and volition discover acceptance with God. Even Africa - wronged, degraded, oppressed, injured Africa - will do it; and the worship of her children will exist as adequate to the Universal Father as that of any other of the races of mankind that dwell on the world.

Calvin's Commentary on the Bible
31. Princes shall come out of Egypt. He resumes the strain of thanksgiving, and confirms what he had previously asserted, that kings would come up and pay tribute unto God. The examples which he brings forward are those of the Egyptians and Ethiopians. This sufficiently proves that the prediction must exist extended to Christ, by whom the Egyptians and Ethiopians were brought under the sway of God. The word תריף, tarits, translated, shall soon stretch out, might have been rendered, shall cause to run. (61) But it seemed necessary to soften the harshness of the figure. Information technology is doubtful whether the innuendo exist to the promptness with which they should yield subjection, or whether he ways that they would stretch out their hands to entreat pardon, this existence an attitude common to suppliants. According to either interpretation, information technology is their submission which is intended, and it is enough to know that David asserts that Federal democratic republic of ethiopia and Egypt would come under the power of God, and not they only, only the most distant parts of the world.
(61) "The Hebrew is very emphatic: — 'Cush volition cause her easily to run out to God.' She volition with great alacrity and delight surrender her ability and influence unto God." — Dr Adam Clarke.

Smith'due south Bible Commentary
Psalms 68:1-35
Psalms 68:1-35 :
Permit God arise, let his enemies exist scattered: allow them also that detest him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melts before the burn, and then let the wicked perish at the presence of God ( Psalms 68:1-two ).
So, sort of a matter against the enemies of God. "Permit them exist scattered, permit them flee as smoke sort of only disappears, is driven past the current of air, so drive them. Every bit wax melts before the fire, then allow them perish in the presence of God."
But let the righteous exist glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice ( Psalms 68:3 ).
All right, righteous, be glad. Rejoice earlier God. In fact, exceedingly rejoice.
Sing unto God, sing praises to his proper name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name, YAH, and rejoice before him ( Psalms 68:4 ).
The Yah, the I am. And of course, in the proper noun you lot have then Yashua, Yahoshaphat, then many different contractions with the Yah, but to usa the of import one is Yashua, which is the Hebrew for Jesus. "Extol Him past His name, Yah, and rejoice earlier Him."
A male parent of the fatherless, a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families: he brings out those which are bound with chains: only the rebellious dwell in a dry land. O God, when you lot went along before your people, when you did march through the wilderness; the world shook, the heavens dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself moved at the presence of God, and the God of Israel. Thou, O God, did send a plentiful pelting, whereby you lot did ostend your inheritance, when it was weary. Your congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hath prepared of thy goodness for the poor. The LORD gave his word: and great was the company of those that published information technology. Kings of armies did flee rapidly: and she that tarried at home divided the spoil. And though you take lain among the pots, yet shall ye be every bit the wings of a dove covered with argent, and her feathers with yellow aureate. When the Almighty scattered kings, and it was white as snow in Salmon. The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; and the high hill is every bit the colina of Bashan. Why leap ye, ye loftier hills? This is the hill which God desired to dwell in; yea, the LORD will dwell in it for ever ( Psalms 68:5-sixteen ).
In other words, he sees the other hills of sort of existence jealous and all considering God has chosen really the hill of Zion to dwell in. "Why leap ye high hills?" You know, "We're so high, information technology should be us, and all."
The chariots of God are 20 thousand, even thousands of angels: the LORD is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy identify. One thousand hast ascended on high ( Psalms 68:17-eighteen ),
Now we take here a prophecy concerning Jesus Christ quoted by Paul in the fourth affiliate of the volume of Ephesians. "Grand hast ascended on high, Chiliad hast led captivity convict. Chiliad hast received gifts for men, yea, for the rebellious likewise that the Lord God may dwell among them." Paul in quoting this said, "He who has ascended is the same one who first of all descended into the lower parts of the earth. And when He ascended, He led the captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. And to some apostles, and to some prophets, and to some evangelists, and to some pastor teachers, for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry for the building up of the body of Christ. Until we all come into the unity of faith, complete man, the noesis of the Son of God, the measure, the stature, the fullness, the image of Christ." And and then, Paul quotes this, "He has ascended on high; He led captivity captive." Merely to atomic number 82 captivity captive, He went starting time of all in the lower parts of the world to free those that were captive.
You lot run into, prior to the expiry of Jesus Christ those Old Testament saints could not enter in to the glory of heaven. It was necessary that their sins be put away, something that the sacrifices of the Old Testament could non do. Information technology was impossible that their sins could be put abroad by the claret of bulls or goats. All of the Old Testament sacrifices just were pointing to the better mode that God would provide when He sent His simply begotten Son to be a lamb offer, sin offering, a sacrifice for our sins. "So we are redeemed, not with corruptible things such as silver and gold from our vain empty life, merely with the precious blood of Jesus Christ who was slain as a lamb without spot or without blemish" ( 1 Peter one:18-19 ). So because the blood of bulls and goats could non put abroad sin just only speak of the better sacrifice which was to come up, their sins were covered, and they, when they died, were held by death in the grave, in Sheol or in Hades, in hell.
Only hell, prior to the death of Christ, was separated into two compartments. I compartment was of suffering for the unbelievers; the other was a compartment of comfort by Abraham for those who were trusting in the promises of God and in the fulfillment of God'south hope. Now these Old Testament men of faith all died in faith not having received the promise, but seeing it afar off they held onto information technology and they claimed that they were only strangers and pilgrims here. And they were just looking for a city which hath foundation, whose maker and builder is God.
Now when Jesus died, He descended into hell. He who has ascended is the one who start of all descended into the lower parts of the earth. And when He ascended, it is and so that He led captivity convict. In the book of Isaiah, affiliate 61, the prophecy concerning Christ, it said, "He is going to set at liberty those that are bound and open the prison doors to those that are bound." Set at liberty those that are chained, open the prison doors to those that are leap. Those that were bound by death, waiting with Abraham for the promise of God. When Jesus died He descended into hell and He preached to those souls that were in prison. The glorious fulfillment of God's promise. The redemptive program is consummate. The blood has been shed, whereby your sins are now put away once and for all. And now with their sins put away, they can ascend into the heavenly scene. Then when He ascended, He led the captives from their captivity. Then He gave gifts unto men. That is, within the church building, He gave gifted men as apostles, equally prophets, equally evangelists, as pastor teachers, for the perfecting of the saints. So, Paul quotes this in Ephesians 4:1-32 , and of course, it just ties together a whole grouping of scriptures. Luke, the sixteenth affiliate; Acts, chapter ii; and Ephesians, chapter four; and the reference there in Peter where He went and preached to those souls in prison; and Isaiah 61:1-11 . So you can await those up and find them tied together.
Blessed be the LORD, who daily loads us with benefits ( Psalms 68:19 ),
I love that! Oh, blest exist the Lord, who daily just loads me downwardly with the benefits of existence His servant. Benefits of walking with Him. Oh, what benefits are mine in Christ Jesus.
fifty-fifty the God of our salvation. He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the LORD belongs the issues of decease ( Psalms 68:19-xx ).
Our times are actually in God's easily. Information technology's appointed unto homo in one case to dice, and unto God the Lord belong the issues of death.
But God shall wound the caput of his enemies, and the hairy scalp of such as those that go on nonetheless in his trespasses. The LORD said, I will bring again from Bashan, and I will bring my people again from the depths of the sea: That thy human foot may be dipped in the blood of your enemies, and the natural language of the dogs in the same. They have seen thy goings, O God; even the goings of my God, my King, in the sanctuary. The singers went before, the players on the instruments ( Psalms 68:21-25 )
And at present here he is describing the worship of God in the sanctuary. "Yous've seen the going of God in the sanctuary," and now he is going to describe a lilliputian bit. First of all, in the procession the singers are in the front. Following them are those players of instruments--the symbols, the trumpets and all. Followed afterwards them
were the young girls playing on their timbrels. Bless ye God in the congregations, even the LORD, from the fountain of Israel ( Psalms 68:25-26 ).
So he sees at present, and of grade, y'all know, nosotros've come to sort of a stilted form of the worship of God. We get together together. We sit in pews. We sit in rows. We are regimented and all. And nosotros come and we have sort of a lecture on the Word of God, but I am sure that in that location is an area for a diversity in our worship. You know, where they were entering in, fifty-fifty. Singers were in the front as they were entering singing praises unto God, followed past the band playing their instruments, followed by the drill team, the young damsels with their timbrels, as they were playing on the timbrels unto the Lord. When you become to Jerusalem on Friday evening at the beginning of Sabbath, nosotros always like to spend one Friday evening at the Western Wall, as the people assemble to worship the Lord on the Sabbath day. And really the excitement of the evening is when these young Jewish boys come up downwardly from the school. And they come downwards nearly 4 beyond, several rows of them, their arms over each other, and they come up down chanting and dancing. Sort of a footling trip the light fantastic toe step and all, their arms around each other, and they are chanting. And of class, this is the highlight of the evening when these kids come on down to worship the Lord there by the Western Wall. And they do this little trip the light fantastic step coming in. And every bit they get down past the wall, they start then their songs and their chants as they sort of make it a circumvolve, and they beginning dancing around the circle various dances and all unto the Lord. And and so after about a half hour of this kind of worship and praise, and then they put their arms effectually each other and dance back upwardly the colina, chanting and singing their praises unto God, equally they get dorsum upwardly the hill. And information technology is a very moving, touching sight. And I think that this is exciting. I think that there is a place for a more of a demonstrative worship unto God. Y'all know, we are coming into the sanctuary to worship Him. Oh, information technology should exist an exciting experience.
"Enter into His presence with thanksgiving, enter into His courts with praise. Exist thankful unto Him and bless His proper name" ( Psalms 100:4 ). You meet people gathering, and they are honking their horns, "Exit of my style! I'one thousand going to church building today." And by the time nosotros go here, we really need it. Rather than coming in with a joyful heart, a middle that is overflowing with praises unto God in apprehension of worshipping Him.
Now he looks at the congregation that'south assembled and,
There is little Benjamin with their ruler [the small tribe of Benjamin over at that place and at that place they are in their identify with their ruler], and in that location are the princes of Judah and their council, and at that place are the princes of Zebulun, and there over there are the princes of Naphtali. Thy God hath allowable thy force: strengthen, O God, that which you have wrought for united states. Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring their presents unto thee ( Psalms 68:27-29 ).
This, of grade, is again looking frontwards to the Kingdom Age, when the kings of the globe come and offer their presents unto Christ.
Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight in state of war. Princes shall come out of Arab republic of egypt; Ethiopia shall stretch out her easily unto God. Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth [the glorious Kingdom Historic period]; O sing praises unto the Lord: To him that rideth upon the heaven of heavens, which were of one-time; lo, he doth send out his voice, and that a mighty vocalism. Accredit forcefulness unto God: his excellency is over Israel, his force is in the clouds. O God, yard fine art awesome out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God ( Psalms 68:30-35 ).
So the glorious worship of God in the Kingdom Historic period; it is going to be exciting. The singers coming in, the instruments, the girls with their timbrels and all, and the congregation every bit they ascension to worship the Lord. "

Psalms 68
David reviewed God'south dealings with State of israel to memorialize God's faithfulness to His people (cf. Judges 5). He traced Israel's history from the wilderness wanderings to his own capture of Jerusalem. As a mighty commander, God had led His oppressed people into the glorious time to come He had promised them. In the process He overcame many potent foes.
"The theme of this magnificent Psalm is the march of God to victory. It traces the establishment of His kingdom in the past; information technology looks forward to the defeat of all opposition in the time to come until all the kingdoms of the earth own the God of State of israel as their Lord and pay Him homage." David side by side chosen on God to manifest His force anew. He foresaw that foreign kings would fright Yahweh when they heard near all the powerful victories He had won for His people and when they saw His magnificent temple. This in fact occurred during Solomon'south reign, as attested by the Queen of Sheba's testimony (ane Male monarch Psalms 10:1-thirteen). The beasts, bulls, and calves to which David referred probably stand for foreign rulers. He saw them bringing tribute. This too happened when Solomon reigned. David predicted that the Lord would defuse rebellions and crusade potential enemies to brand peace with State of israel out of respect for her God.

Gill'due south Exposition of the Whole Bible
Princes shall come out of Egypt,.... The Vulgate Latin and all the Oriental versions render information technology "ambassadors". This verse is a prophecy of the conversion of the Gentiles, under the names of Egypt and Federal democratic republic of ethiopia; which will be at the aforementioned fourth dimension that the kings of the world volition go Christians, and antichrist will be destroyed. The Gospel is said to be preached in Egypt by Marking the Evangelist; and no incertitude but there were conversions there in the outset times of the Gospel; but at that place will be more in the latter twenty-four hours; see Psalms 87:3. Unless we understand this of kings and princes, that shall leave the communion of the church building of Rome, which is spiritually and mystically Egypt, and bring together themselves with the truthful churches of come across
Revelation 11:8. The conversion of every sinner is a coming out of Egypt; it is a phone call of them out of darkness and bondage, worse than that of Arab republic of egypt, into light and freedom, when they are set amid princes, fifty-fifty the princes of Christ's people;
Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God; the Gospel is said to be preached in Ethiopia by the Evangelist Matthew, and besides by Matthias, who succeeded Judas in the apostleship; by ways of whose ministry building there is reason to conclude some were converted: and we have an instance of a famous Ethiopian, that was converted and baptized by Philip, Acts 8:27; and who very probable carried the Gospel into this country, and spread it: then that this prophecy began to have its fulfilment then, but will take a greater hereafter; see, Psalms 87:4. All men are like Ethiopians, even God's elect, in a country of nature and unregeneracy: they are black with original sin and actual transgressions; and tin no more remove this blackness than the Ethiopian can change his peel, Jeremiah xiii:23. They are, similar them, idolaters, serving divers lusts and pleasures, the idols of their own hearts; are in a land of distance, afar off from God and Christ, and from his people, word, and ordinances; and are enemies in their minds by wicked works, yea, enmity itself, and stretch out their easily against God; but when they are chosen and converted, and made sensible of their land, so they stretch out their hands unto God, every bit a gesture of sorrow, Jeremiah 4:31; expressing their sorrow for sin, every bit committed against God, and considering of the evil that is in it; and await to Christ, and stretch out their hands to him, whom they have pierced, and mourn; and as a prayer gesture, Task eleven:13. For, every bit presently as a human being is converted, he prays and cries to God for pardoning grace and mercy, and to be cleansed from his sin, and to be openly received into his favour, and to savor communion with him; and as the gesture of a man in the utmost danger, who stretches out, his hand to lay hold on anything to save him; and so a sinner, sensible of its danger, and seeing Christ and salvation in him, it stretches out its hand, lays hold on him, and volition take him and no other to exist its Saviour, and receives his righteousness, and grace out of his fulness; and as the gesture of ane that is conquered, resigning up himself into the victor'south hands, every bit a token of submission, peace, and reconciliation m; so sinners, in the day of Christ'south ability upon them, are made willing to submit and surrender themselves to him. In the Hebrew text information technology is, "shall make her easily to run unto God" n; that is, with an offering, golden or some treasure, to bring it unto God, as Aben Ezra, Kimchi, and Ben Melech, interpret information technology, which may very well be understood of the offer of themselves, likewise as of the spiritual sacrifices of prayer and praise. The Targum is,
"the sons of Ham shall come, the great men out of Egypt, to exist made proselytes; the children of Cush (or Ethiopia) shall run to stretch out their hands in prayer to God.''
Jarchi's note is,
"and then when thou shalt destroy Esau (his posterity), and the Male monarch Messiah shall ascend, they shall bring to thee gifts out of Ethiopia.''
And so he owns this to be a prophecy of the Messiah; and so information technology is applied to the times of the Messiahs and to the nations bringing gifts to him, in the Talmud o, and other Jewish writings p.

Henry'south Complete Commentary on the Bible
Redemption of God's People; Duties Enforced past the Discoveries of Grace. | |
22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I volition bring my people again from the depths of the sea: 23 That thy foot may exist dipped in the blood of thine enemies, and the tongue of thy dogs in the same. 24 They accept seen thy goings, O God; fifty-fifty the goings of my God, my Male monarch, in the sanctuary. 25 The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with timbrels. 26 Bless ye God in the congregations, even the Lord, from the fountain of Israel. 27 There is fiddling Benjamin with their ruler, the princes of Judah and their council, the princes of Zebulun, and the princes of Naphtali. 28 Thy God hath allowable thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which yard hast wrought for us. 29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee. 30 Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight in state of war. 31 Princes shall come out of Arab republic of egypt; Ethiopia shall presently stretch out her hands unto God. In these verses we take three things:-- I. The gracious promise which God makes of the redemption of his people, and their victory over his and their enemies (Psalms 68:22; Psalms 68:23): The Lord said, in his own gracious purpose and hope, "I will exercise cracking things for my people, every bit the God of their salvation," Psalms 68:xx; Psalms 68:xx. God volition not fail the expectations of those who past faith take him for their God. Information technology is promised, 1. That he will set them in safety from their danger, as he had done formerly: "I will once again bring them from the depths of the sea," as he did State of israel when he brought them out of the slavery of Egypt into the ease and liberty of the wilderness; "and I volition once more bring them from Bashan," as he did Israel when he brought them from their wants and wanderings in the wilderness into the fulness and settlement of the land of Canaan; for the land of Bashan was on the other side Jordan, where they had wars with Sihon and Og, and whence their side by side removal was into Canaan. Note, The former appearances of God's ability and goodness for his people should encourage their organized religion and promise in him for the time to come, that what he has washed he will practice again. He will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people (Isaiah 11:xi); and we may perhaps encounter repeated all the wonders which our fathers told us of. Merely this is not all: 2. That he will make them victorious over their enemies (Psalms 68:23; Psalms 68:23): That thy feet may be dipped, as grand passest along, in the claret of thy enemies, shed like water in great abundance, and the tongue of thy dogs may lap in the same. Dogs licked the blood of Ahab; and, in the devastation of the anti-christian generation, we read of blood up to the horses' bridles, Revelation 14:20. The victories with which God blest David'southward forces over the enemies of Israel are here prophesied of, only as types of Christ's victory over death and the grave for himself and for all believers, in his resurrection (and theirs by virtue of his) out of the earth, and of the destruction of the enemies of Christ and his church building, who shall take blood given them to beverage, for they are worthy. II. The welcome entertainment which God'south own people shall give to these glorious discoveries of his grace, both in his word and in his works. Has he spoken in his holiness? Has he said he will bring again from Bashan? What then is required of the states in return to this? 1. That we notice his motions (Psalms 68:24; Psalms 68:24): "They take seen, thy people have seen, thy goings, O God! While others regard not the piece of work of the Lord, nor the operation of his hands, they have seen the goings of my God, my Rex, in the sanctuary." See here, (1.) How an active faith appropriates God; he is God and King; but that is non all, he is my God and my King. Those who thus take him for theirs may see him, in all his outgoings, acting as their God, as their Male monarch, for their good, and in reply to their prayers. (2.) Where God's most remarkable outgoings are, fifty-fifty in the sanctuary, in and by his discussion and ordinances, and among his people in the gospel church building especially, in and past which is made known the manifold wisdom of God. These outgoings of his in the sanctuary far outshine the outgoings of the morn and the evening, and more than loudly proclaim his eternal power and godhead. (iii.) What is our duty in reference to these outgoings, which is to discover them. This is the finger of God. Surely God is with u.s. of a truth. 2. That we give him glory in the most devout and solemn manner. When we run across his goings in his sanctuary, (1.) Let those that are immediately employed in the service of the temple praise him, Psalms 68:25; Psalms 68:25. It was expected that the Levites, some of whom were singers and others players on instruments, who had the nearest views of his outgoings in his sanctuary, should lead in his praises. And, it existence a twenty-four hours of boggling triumph, among them were damsels playing with timbrels, to complete the concert. "Thus (says Dr. Hammond) when Christ has gone up to heaven the apostles shall celebrate and publish it to all the earth, and even the women that were witnesses of it shall affectionately join with them in divulging it." (ii.) Let all the people of Israel in their solemn religious assembly give glory to God: Bless God, not merely in temples, but in the synagogues, or schools of the prophets, or wherever there is a congregation of those that come up forth from the fountain of Israel, that are of the seed of Jacob, let them agree in approval God. Public mercies, which we jointly share in, call for public thanksgivings, which all should bring together in. "Thus (says Dr. Hammond) all Christians shall be obliged solemnly to magnify the name of the Messiah, and, to that finish, frequently to assemble together in congregations." And, (three.) Allow those among them who, upon any account, are the most eminent, and brand a figure, go before the rest in praising God, Psalms 68:27; Psalms 68:27. There was little Benjamin (that was the royal tribe in Saul'southward time) with their rulers, the princes of Judah (that was the royal tribe in David'due south time), and their council, their captains or leaders. In the start of David'south reign at that place had been long war between Judah and Benjamin, but now they both join in praises for success confronting the common enemy. But why are the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali particularly mentioned? Peradventure because those tribes, lying towards the north, lay virtually exposed to the incursions of the Syrians, and other neighbours that molested them, and therefore should be in a particular manner thankful for these victories over them. Dr. Hammond gives some other reason, That these were the two learned tribes. Naphtali giveth goodly words (Genesis 49:21) and Zebulun had those that handle the pen of the author, Judges 5:xiv. These shall join in praising God, their princes particularly. It is much for the award of God when those that are above others in dignity, power, and reputation, get before them in the worship of God and are forward in using their influence and involvement for the advancing of any service that is to exist washed to him. Dr. Hammond notes hence that the kingdom of the Messiah should, at length, be submitted to by all the potentates and learned men in the world. 3. That we seek unto him, and depend upon him, for the perfecting of what he has begun, Psalms 68:28; Psalms 68:28. In the former part of the verse the psalmist speaks to State of israel: "Thy God has commanded thy strength; that is, any is done for thee, or any forcefulness thou hast to help thyself, information technology comes from God, his ability and grace, and the word which he has allowable; one thousand hast no reason to fearfulness while thou hast strength of God's commanding, and no reason to boast while thou hast no forcefulness merely what is of his commanding." In the latter part he speaks to God, encouraged past his experiences: "Strengthen, O God! that which thou hast wrought for us. Lord, confirm what thou hast commanded, perform what thou hast promised, and bring to a happy end that practiced work which thou hast so gloriously begun." What God has wrought he will strengthen; where he has given truthful grace he volition give more than grace. Some make this whole verse to exist a believer's address to the Messiah, whom David calls God, as he had done, Psalms 45:six; Psalms 45:8. "Thy God" (God the Father) "has commanded thy strength, has made thee strong for himself, as the man of his correct manus (Psalms 80:17), has treasured upwardly force in thee for us; therefore we pray that thou, O God the Son! wilt strengthen what thou hast wrought for united states of america, wilt achieve thy undertaking for the states by finishing thy proficient work in us." III. The powerful invitation and inducement which would hereby be given to those that are without to come in and bring together themselves to the church building, Psalms 68:29-31; Psalms 68:29-31. This was in part fulfilled past the accretion of many proselytes to the Jewish organized religion in the days of David and Solomon; but it was to have its full accomplishment in the conversion of the Gentile nations to the faith of Christ, and the making of them young man-heirs, and of the same body, with the seed of Israel, Ephesians three:6. 1. Some shall submit for fear (Psalms 68:30; Psalms 68:30): "The company of spearmen, that stand it out against Christ and his gospel, that are not willing to be ruled by him, that persecute the preachers and professors of his proper noun, that are furious and outrageous as a multitude of bulls, fat and wanton every bit the calves of the people" (which is a description of those Jews and Gentiles that opposed the gospel of Christ and did what they could to prevent the setting up of his kingdom in the earth), "Lord, rebuke them, allay their pride, assuage their malice, and confound their devices, till, conquered by the convictions of their consciences and the many checks of providence, they exist every one of them brought, at length, to submit themselves with pieces of silver, every bit being glad to brand their peace with the church upon any terms." Even Judas submitted himself with pieces of silverish when he returned them with this confession, I accept betrayed innocent blood. And run into Revelation 3:ix. Many, by being rebuked, take been happily saved from being ruined. Simply as for those that will not submit, nonetheless these rebukes, he prays for their dispersion, which amounts to a prophecy of it: Scatter 1000 the people that delight in state of war, who take such a pleasance in opposing Christ that they will never be reconciled to him. This may refer to the unbelieving Jews, who delighted in making war upon the holy seed, and would not submit themselves, and were therefore scattered over the face of the earth. David had himself been a human being of war, but could entreatment to God that he never delighted in war and bloodshed for its own sake; as for those that did, and therefore would not submit to the fairest terms of peace, he does non dubiety but God would scatter them. Those are lost to all the sacred principles of humanity, as well as Christianity, that can delight in war and take a pleasance in contention let them expect that, sooner or later on, they shall take enough of it, Isaiah 33:1; Revelation 13:10. 2. Others shall submit willingly (Psalms 68:29; Psalms 68:31): Because of thy temple at Jerusalem (this David speaks of in religion, for the temple of Jerusalem was not built in his time, just the materials and model were prepared) kings shall bring presents unto thee; rich presents shall be brought, such every bit are fit for kings to bring; even kings themselves, that stand much upon the punctilios of honour and prerogative, shall court the favour of Christ at a great expense. At that place is that in God's temple, that beauty and do good in the service of God and in communion with him, and in the gospel of Christ which went forth from Jerusalem, that is enough to invite kings themselves to bring presents to God, to present themselves to him every bit living sacrifices, and with themselves the best performances. He mentions Egypt and Federal democratic republic of ethiopia, 2 countries out of which subjects and suppliants were to the lowest degree to be expected (Psalms 68:31; Psalms 68:31): Princes shall come out of Egypt every bit ambassadors to seek God's favour and submit to him; and they shall be accepted, for the Lord of hosts shall thereupon bless them, saying, Blessed past Egypt my people, Isaiah xix:25. Fifty-fifty Federal democratic republic of ethiopia, that had stretched out her easily against God's Israel (2 Chronicles 14:9), should now stretch out her hands unto God, in prayer, in presents, and to take hold on him, and that soon. Hold with thy antagonist quickly. Out of all nations some shall be gathered in to Christ and be owned by him. Copyright Argument Bibliographical Information
